“The central theme of this second Biobusiness course is preparing you for a future as an innovative problem-solver, whether you choose a career in big pharma, medium biotech, a micro startup or in research. It isn’t so much about being an entrepreneur as being entrepreneurial.
In the world of biomedicine and biotechnology, it is the individual who sees opportunities where others see challenges who drives innovation…and goes on to change the world.
When you make that discovery or invention, will you be prepared to seize the opportunity and change the world?
In the world of biomedicine and biotechnology, it is the small, nimble, dynamic, entrepreneurial companies who drive innovation…and go on to change the world.
When you go to work for that dynamic start-up company, will you have the right mindset and skills to ensure that the product reaches the patient or the customer?”

This course builds on the content and the themes introduced in “Introduction to Bio-business and Bio-entrepreneurship” and is followed by an Honours level course for those who wish to graduate “with Biobusiness” added to their degree.
We introduce a number of new topics, including biotech, medtech and biodesign, and will see how we go about identifying, designing and evaluating a solution to an unmet market need. We will also see how much can be done using AI and how much still comes down to the entrepreneur.
As with the introductory Bio-business course, the focus is on creativity, inventiveness, ideas, innovation and entrepreneurship (and not on facts!)…but mostly it is about allowing you either to gently push the boundaries of your comfort zone, or indeed to confidently kick down the walls and find a whole new world you never knew existed, and a version of yourself with a palate of skills and expertise that you never knew you had.
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.
