Research Facilities Showcase opens door to academic technology and expertise for local businesses

Businesses will be able to engage with more than 20 world class research facilities offered by the University of Aberdeen during an information-sharing event on April 19.

The half-day interdisciplinary Research Facilities Showcase will take place at the Science Teaching Hub building at Old Aberdeen, bringing together researchers from across the University for an exhibition of the state-of-the-art research facilities they operate in.

Open to commercial enterprises as well as other universities and research institutions, the free to attend event seeks to provide information on the cutting-edge research facilities based in the region and how to access them.

Among the exhibitors taking place, visitors will be able to find out about the facilities and research opportunities offered by the National Decommissioning Centre, the Aberdeen Biomedical Imaging Centre, the North of Scotland KTP Centre; and the Geochemistry Laboratory. Exhibitor stands span the disciplines from digital technology to medical nutrition, with participation from the likes of the Human Intervention Studies Unit, Rowett Analytical Facilities, the Geophysical Equipment Repository and the Centre for Genome-Enabled Biology and Medicine among others.

Jade McGowan of the University’s Research Facilities working group, said: “The Showcase is designed to make the University of Aberdeen's extensive array of top-tier facilities accessible not only to our internal researchers and external research institutions, but also commercial enterprises.

“Anyone interested in attending will get the chance to engage directly with highly skilled professionals, gain insights into their equipment, expertise and knowledge, and discover how to leverage these resources for their own upcoming projects.”
