Invasive privet in Argentina

Invasive privet in Argentina

The privet (Ligustrum lucidum) is an Asian tree, frequently used as ornamental in many parts of the world. As in other regions, in the cloud forest of Argentina (Yungas forest) it has become an invasive species that affects ecosystem functions and decreases the native biodiversity. Our objective is to develop strategies to contain the privet invasion and mitigate their negative impacts.

We are also working to reduce the scarcity of knowledge about Ligustrum ecology and its dispersal behaviour through experimental field work and species distribution models. The most exciting activities are to work with enthusiastic students and other colleagues to create new opportunities and discuss ideas about invasive alien species. We will share our research and work with different stakeholders, researchers and students to co-create an efficient collaborative work to improve invasive alien species management in our country.
