Current Activities

RIISS is currently supporting the following project/s under RIISS 'Phase 3:

Margaret Jones Bequest

In 2012 The Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies was one of the major beneficiaries of a very substantial bequest to the University from the estate of Mrs Margaret Jones. As a result, for the next 7 to 10 years from 2012, RIISS is able to continue to support research and publications in Irish and Scottish studies at about the same level as during the two phases of the AHRC Centre.

As the first initiative of this ‘Phase 3’, we invited University of Aberdeen staff to make bids for initial funding of up to £20k for projects in any area of Irish and Scottish Studies which can either:

(a) be developed into a major bid for AHRC, ESRC or EU funding streams

or

(b) support new collaborative work with scholars in Ireland (and particularly with our partners in Queen’s Belfast and Trinity College Dublin) or with Irish and/or Scottish Studies Centres anywhere in the world.

Application process

Details of application for a second round of funding are forthcoming.

If you would like to discuss a possible application, please contact Cairns Craig (cairns.craig@abdn.ac.uk) or Michael Brown (m.brown@abdn.ac.uk).

We anticipate being able to support at least two projects each year.

In addition, we continue to encourage suggestions for conferences or symposia that we could fund and whose outputs would contribute to issues of The Journal of Irish and Scottish Studies or The Journal of Scottish Thought.
