Reminder on Classroom Upgrades to Windows 7

Reminder on classroom upgrades to Windows 7 and other changes to the classroom environment over the summer

What is happening?

We would like to remind you that the annual classroom upgrades this year has involved a move from a Windows XP environment to Windows 7; this means that the logon screens and some of the dialogs are different.

The lecture theatre systems have also been upgraded to Windows 7, running a stripped down version of the classroom style PCs. This version addresses some performance issues experienced last year. You may need to run a virtual network PC if you need departmental specific software for your lectures, so do please check before term starts. For details, see the Fact Sheet at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/dit/documents/factsheets/fsgc07.pdf

There have also been a number of other changes to the service provided for students; full details can be found at www.abdn.ac.uk/dit/student/news/index_1896.php

What should you do?

If you are teaching in PC classrooms or lecture theatre please be aware and make yourself familiar with the changes.

If there are problems with the classrooms, printers or wireless network please contact the DIT Service Desk:

(Please give as much detailed information as possible including date, time, location and PC or Printer – thanks)
