King's Museum Tuesday Evening Lectures

Join a host of speakers on Tuesday evenings to learn about a variety of topics, ranging from democracy and architecture, to cookery and murals.

Tuesday evening lectures are held in New King's 10, next to King's Museum (King's) or in MacRobert Building 055 (MacRobert). Some lectures have been arranged in conjunction with the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, the Elphinstone Institute and the Scottish Hellenic Society. 

  • The Development of the Country House in North AberdeenshireDavid Walker, University of Aberdeen. 25 September, at 7.30pm in MacRobert, Room 055, £3.  With the Elphinstone Institute.

 

  • Successful Strategies to Healthier Eating Behaviours  Dr Clare Scott, University of Aberdeen: Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. Join psychologist Dr. Clare Scott for this interactive lecture which will explore the social, cultural and emotional pressures that shape our eating behaviour.  Find out what type of eater you are and learn more about the toolbox of techniques that could help you change your ways. 2 October, at 7.30pm in New King’s 10, Free.  With the Rowett Institute and King's Museum Food Stories exhibition.

 

  • The Architecture of Society: recent work on the Iron Age of CaithnessDr Andrew Heald, Dr Graeme Cavers and Dr John Barber, AOC Archaeology Group. 9 October, at 7.30pm in New King’s 10, Free. With the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.   

 

  • Journey of a LifetimeBaroness Symons A talk accompanying a photographic exhibition in the MacRobert building. The photographs on display were taken by HRH Princess Alice during a visit to Saudi Arabia in 1938, the year that oil was discovered there. 18 October, at 6.30pm in MacRobert, Free.All are welcome to this series of public lectures organised by King's Museum. Please note: This lecture takes place on a Thursday, at an earlier time than the regular sessions. A member of staff will be on hand to guide visitors to the lecture hall in the MacRobert Building.

  • Perspectives on Piltdown. The Stones of ContentionDr John McNabb, University of Southampton. 13 November, at 7.30pm in New King’s 10, Free.  With the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

  • Feeding the Masses: One Hundred Years of Nutrition ResearchProfessor Peter Morgan, Director University of Aberdeen: Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. Celebrating the Rowett’s Centenary year.   22 January, at 7.30pm in New King’s 10, Free.  With the Rowett Institute and King's Museum Food Stories exhibition.
