Ethical considerations

Students should note that in general terms, any project should demonstrate ethical practice to a level expected in the UK, wherever it is carried out or whatever the local supervision of ethical practice might be. Some countries especially in the developing world have no ethics committees, for example, but others do. The process through such formal processes will in all likelihood require at least help from the host supervisor. Students are advised to discuss ethical issues with the host institution supervisor.

It is worth noting that most ethics committees work slowly – at least 6 to 9 months should be allowed to progress though the process and committees, especially in the UK are becomng increasing strict with their requirements.  In most instances you should, as a minimum, investigate whether ethics approval is required.
