... for the sake of Christ's wounds and from her mercy, she may make us worthy to see her and, seeing her, rejoice in heaven.

A prayer to God (folio 270r). The author, commemorating Christ's birth, resurrection and ascension and the joys of his mother, Mary, asks that we may be delivered from grief on earth and be worthy to rejoice in heaven.


Omnipotens sempiterne deus qui divina Ga\brielis salutacione et sancti filii tui na\tivitate et gloriosa eiusdem resurrecti\one et admiranda eius ascensione et veneran\da genitricis ipsius sancte Marie matri sue gau\dia contulisti presta quesumus ut pro eius amore ab\ omni specie doloris liberemur in terris et sempi\ternis gaudiis perfrui mereamur in celis. A hymn to the Virgin Mary, invoking her as star of the sea, lit by the sun, who bore the true sun, Jesus. She is called a star because she lights the way from sadness, guiding and soothing us; she is called Maria because she is mistress of the seas.
