Dr William Zachs visits Aberdeen to deliver talk at the Sir Duncan Rice Library
On Monday 13th November 2017, Dr William Zachs will deliver an enthralling talk entitled "The Bibliomaniac's Progress: Reflections on Scholarly Book Collecting" at 5.30pm in the Special Collections Seminar Room at the Sir Duncan Rice Library to which all are welcome.
In 2015 Dr Zachs established the Thomas Reid Prize for Book Collecting at the University. The Prize offers students the opportunity to win £500 towards the development of their own collection and £250 to enhance the holdings of the University's Special Collections Centre.
As well as delivering his talk, Dr Zachs will launch the Thomas Reid Prize for 2017/18 and present the items purchased for the Special Collections Centre by the 2016/17 winner Derek Stewart.
Dr Zachs is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Literatures, Languages, and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh. His research interests focus on the history of the book in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Scotland. An avid collector of the written word, he established the Thomas Reid Prize for Book Collecting at the University of Aberdeen to encourage others to share his passion for books.
