Biography: Son of James Cantlie; born London, 6 February 1886. M.A. (I CIass), 1908; Black Latin Prize. Commissioned, Indian Army (R.O.), 1915. Served with 105th, 103rd Mahratta Light Infantry; Directorate of Labour, Mesopotamia; India, 1915-17; Mesopotamia, 1917-18; Persia, 1918. Final rank, Captain. Mentioned in despatches, 1918.
