Biography: Son of R. W. Thompson, Ipswich ; born Ipswich, 3 October 1923 ; educated at Northgate Grammar School. Joining the Royal Air Force in 1941, he attended a Cadets' course at the University. Later on he was sent to Canada to undergo operational training, and met his death there on 6 September 1942.
