Stewart, John Maxwell

Biography: Son of John Alexander Stewart, Professor of Burmese at London University and of Kinlay Stewart, of Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.; born 1919 ; educated at Aberdeen Grammar School. After a year at Aberdeen University he entered King's College, Cambridge, and graduated B.A. in 1939. He joined the Royal Air Force and was for a time Gunnery Instructor, being awarded the A.F.M. for his work. Commissioned in 1942 he began operational flying, and in April 1943 he was reported missing in a raid on Essen and presumed to have lost his life.
