Biography: Son of William and Winefred Beatrice Riley, Blackpool ; born Blackburn, 1923 ; educated at St. Joseph's College, Blackpool. In 1941 he joined the Royal Air Force and attended the Cadets' course at the University. He was later attached to an Advanced Flying Unit at Wigtown, and on 31 October 1942 was reported missing on a training flight and presumed killed.
