Fraser, Ian Catto

Biography: Son of John T. Fraser, schoolmaster. Born Petty East, Inverness-shire, 8 December 1895; educated Gordon's College; student in Arts, 1913-14. He joined the Territorials in 1912, and enlisted in the Gordon's College Company of the 1/4th Gordons on the outbreak of war. After six months' training at Bedford he went to the Front as a Corporal; commissioned on the field for distinguished service, he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, July 1915, and fought with them in the heavy fighting at Loos where he was killed, 25 September 1915. Of Fraser it could be truly said that he lived his life in short measures, two sessions at the University, 6 months of training, 7 months of active service, and he was only 19 when he fell; already he had shown that he had the rare gift of infectious enthusiasm, which inspired others to do and dare along with him, alike in the playing field at King's and in the battle-fields of Flanders.
