Ludwig, Charles

Biography: Son of Charles Frederick Ludwig and Helene Ludwig, Desswood Place, Aberdeen ; born Aberdeen, 25 October 1911 ; educated at Aberdeen Grammar and Pocklington Schools. He entered the University to take the medical course, and while there made a name for himself as an athlete. In 1934 he graduated M.B., Ch.B. with Honours and was awarded the Murray Medal and Scholarship. Thereafter he specialized in Physiology and was appointed to the staff of Leeds University as a Lecturer. Shortly after the outbreak of war he gave up his appointment and volunteered for the Royal Air Force as an aircraftsman instead of electing to join the medical side of the service. He was commissioned in 1941 and took part in several raids over enemy territory. Early in 1942 he lost his life in action.
