Biography: Son of James W. Abernethy; born Aberdeen. Science, 1909-10. Glasgow O.T.C., 1910-11. Trooper, Northern Bengal Mounted Rifles, May 1913; commissioned 13th Highland Light Infantry, 7 October 1915; transferred Machine Gun Corps. Served - Home, 1915-16, 1917-18; France, Belgium, Germany, July 1916-June 1917, July 1918-April 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
