Edinburgh University Officer Training Corps Artillery, 5 February 1917; Cadet, No. 2 Royal Garrison Artillery Cadet School, 1917-18; commissioned, No. 1 Siege Artillery Reserve Brigade, 4 February 1918; attached 119th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery Served-Home, 1917-18; France, Belgium, March 1918-July 1919. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant. Croix de Guerre, franchise, avec palme, September 1918.
