Served-France, Belgium, 1914-17; British Military Mission, Washington, 1918, Final rank, Colonel. Companion of the order of St. Michael and St. George, 1915. Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, 1917. Croix d'officier de la Legion d'Honneur, France, 1918. Companion of the order of the Bath (Military), 1919. Four mentions in despatches.
