Biography: Son of Robert Mitchell; born Foveran, Aberdeen, 8 June 1873. M.A., 1894; B.L. (dist), 1896. Commissioned, 1st Aberdeenshire Royal Engineers (Volunteers), 1900; later 2nd Highland Field Company Royal Engineers (T.F.). Mobilized, 4 August 1914. Served-Home, 1914-15; France, March 1915-February 1919. Final rank, Major. Distinguished Service Order. T.D. (accelerated). Mentioned in despatches, January 1915.
