Dawson, Alexander George

Biography: Son of James Alexander Dawson, C.S.I., C.I.E., and Elizabeth Dawson, Dunolly, Bieldside ; born Roxburghshire, 1914 ; educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and Robert Gordon's College. In 1936 he graduated M.A. with First Class Honours in Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, gaining the Cassie and Greig Prizes. He went out to Persia as a Scientific Officer with the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Early in 1940 he volunteered for service with the Royal Air Force. After quite a spell of operational duties he lost his life in a bomber crash while returning from France on 6 June 1944.
