Biography: Son of Malcolm MacLean; born Barvas, 3 April 1881. M.A. (I English), 1902. Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery, November 1915. Commissioned, 4th Royal Scots Retained by Edinburgh School Board till April1917. Home service, 1917-18. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
