Biography: Son of George Mackie; born Leochel Cushnie, Aberdeenshire, 9 February 1886. M.A., 1907. U Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1904-07. Re-enlisted, 3rd Gordon Highlanders, 9 September 1914. Served with 1st Gordon Highlanders Home, 1914; France, Belgium, October 1914-July 1916; wounded; Home, 1916-17. Final rank, Lance Sergeant.
