Biography: Son of George Sutherland; born Halkirk, 8 April 1891. M.A., 1912. Private, 3rd Gordon Highlanders, June 1916. Commissioned, 4th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 1 March 1917; attached to 15th Battalion Tank Corps. Served- Home, 1916-17; France, October 1917-April 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
