Biography: Son of James Stephen; born Garioch, Aberdeenshire, 20 July 1874. M.A., 1895, M.B. (dist.), 1899; Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), 1912. Commissioned, Indian Medical Service, 1900. Mobilized Major, 1914. Served with I.E.F., France, December 1914-January 1916; with No. 1 Indian General Hospital, March 1916-April 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant-Colonel.
