Biography: Son of Alexander Smith; born Aberdeen, 7 July 1887. Law, 1908-10. Served, Malay State Volunteer Reserves, 1915-16. Commissioned, 4th Gordon Highlanders, May 1917. Served-France, May-June 1918; invalided. Final rank, Lieutenant.
