M.A. (I Classics), 1912.- Private, 15th County of London Civil Service Rifles, 27 June, 1915; transferred Royal Enginners, Wireless, Intelligence Branch. Served-Home, 1915-16; France, Belgium, February 1916-May 1918. Prisoner of War, 27 May-November 1918. Final rank, Sapper.
