Biography: Son of Alexander E. Smith; born Aberdeen, 11 July 1862. M.B.,1883. Surgeon, Royal Navy, 1884. Mobilized, August 1914. Officer Commanding, Royal Navy and Auxiliary Naval Hospital, Malta, 1914-November 1916; in charge of Naval recruiting, Admiralty; organized Auxiliary Naval Hospital, Stirling, 1916-19. Final rank, Surgeon-Rear-Admiral. Companion of the order of the Bath, 1918. Officer of Legion of Honour, 1918.
