Biography: Son of Robert Smith; born Sedgefield, 13 May 1869. M.A., 1888 ; M.B., 1891. Commissioned, I.M.S., 1892. Mobilized, August 1914. Served-India, 1914-November 1917; Mesopotamia, Egypt, November 1917-November 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant-Colonel Companion of the order of St. Michael and St George, June 1919. Mentioned in despatches, March 1919.
