Biography: Son of Daniel Smith; born Aberdeen, 29 January 1881. M.A.,1904. Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery, 4 June 1916. Commissioned, November 1917. Served-Home, 1916-17; Flanders, France, December 1917-December 1918. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
