Biography: Son of Alexander E. Smith; born Aberdeen, 24 February 1864. M.A., 1885; Advocate in Aberdeen, 1891. Commissioned, T.F. Reserve, 27 February 1916. Home service, Recruiting Officer, 1916-17. Subsequently Civilian Recruiting Officer (Ministry of National Service). Final rank, Lieutenant.
