Biography: Son of Alexander Smart; born Aberdeen, 26 March 1888. M.A., 1909. Private, 8th Royal Scots, 23 November 1915; 4th Seaforth Highlanders, County of London Yeomanry. Commissioned, Labour Corps, 15 July 1917. Home service. Final rank, 2nd Lieutenant.
