Biography: Son of A. R. Welsh; born Umtata, Cape Province, 10 December 1881. M.B., 1905. Lieutenant, Cape Mounted Riflemen, 1906. Mobilized, August 1914. Served with South African Medical Corps and R.A.M.C.; German South West Africa, France, 1914-19. Final rank, Major. Military Cross, 1917.
