Munro, George William

Regiment: 4th Battalion Cameron Highlanders

Biography: Son of John Munro, telegraphic superintendent, Highland Railway ; born Inverness, 1 July 1893 ; educated at the High Public School and Royal Academy, Inverness ; matriculated in Agriculture, 1913. On the outbreak of war he joined the 4th Cameron Highlanders, and after a period of training in Bedford, proceeded to France with his regiment in February 1915. He took his part in much heavy fighting and was three times wounded, at Neuve Chapelle, Festubert and Loos. In December 15 he received his commission and subsequently was almost continuously on active service. On 4 October 1918 he died of wounds received in action ten days previously. A brave officer, he never spared himself in the discharge of his duty and was greatly esteemed by the officers and men of the Battalion.
