Morrison, Rev. John

Biography: Son of Rev. Murdo Morrison, Bernera U.F. Church ; born Kenmore, Perthshire, 10 August 1885 ; graduated M.A. (II Ment.), 1907 ; B.D., 1911 ; studied at Aberdeen U.F. College, 1907-11, where he took a very high place in all his classes, gaining the Eadie Prize in New Testament Greek as well as a Lumsden and Sachs Fellowship. He was ordained in 1911 to the U.F. Church at Kincraig. In February 1915 Morrison enlisted as a Private in the 8th Cameron Highlanders, was afterwards commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, and finally became a full Lieutenant. During part of the years 1915-17, owing to his knowledge of Gaelic, he acted as recruiting officer in Inverness-shire, and was specially commended by the War Office for his services in that capacity. Thereafter he went to France, and was killed by a shell near St. Quentin on 24 September 1918. In the words of one who knew him well, Morrison was "a brave officer and a good man, faithful to his calling as minister and soldier".
