Biography: Son of James Murray, joiner ; born Oathlaw, Forfar, 1 March 1883 ; graduated M.A., 1906 ; Assistant Master, Mortlach Public School ; Headmaster, Glenrinnes Public School, Banffshire. During his absence, his wife acted as his substitute at Glenrinnes until her death in 1918, when Murray, being still on active service, resigned his post in the School. Nothing was further from Murray's thoughts than a soldier's life, but in November 1915 he enlisted in the Gordons as a Private and received a commission in April 1917. Whilst on service in France he saw much heavy fighting, and fell in action near Arras on 29 August 1918.

Burial Details: Buried at Anzin-St. Aubin British Cemetery, Plot 3, Row E, Grave 21.
