Biography: Son of Henry Laing; born Premnay, Aberdeenshire, 31 March 1894. M.A., 1915 ; B.Sc. (Forestry), 1920; B.Sc. (distinction), 1921. Pioneer, Special Brigade, Royal Engineers, 3 February 1916. Served-France, April 1916-January 1919. Final rank, Pioneer.
