Ross, James Stewart

Biography: Son of James Ross, commercial traveller, Aberdeen ; born Dingwall, 4 May 1895 ; educated at Aberdeen Grammar School ; he matriculated in Agriculture in 1912 and was a very conscientious student. During his school and student days he was well known in athletic circles. As a member of the Transport Service of the R.A.M.C. he was called to the colours at the outbreak of war. On 8 May 1915 he landed at Gallipoli with the First Expeditionary Force. He was on the Peninsula during the whole of the British occupation and took part in all the fighting. In January 1916 he was drafted to France and served continuously for a year on the Western Front. About the end of 1917 he joined the Royal Air Force and, after training at Hastings and Oxford, he was sent to the Flying Station at Duxford where, on 29 July 1918, he was accidentally killed.

Burial Details: Buried at Springbank Cemetery, Aberdeen, Section N, Grave 109.
