Biography: Son of Henry Pickthall; born Burnley, 11 December 1882. M.A., 1909; B.D., 1912. R.A. Chaplains' Department, C.F., 7 January 1916; attached to 12th Reserve Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment. Home service, 1 year. Final rank, Chaplain to the Forces, Captain. Honorary rank, January 1919.
