Biography: Son of John Philip; born Fordoun, 12 February 1873. M.A. (I Math.), 1893; B.Sc. (Spec. dist.), 1895; D.Sc., 1906; Town Council Gold Medal, Murray Scholarship. F.R.S. War work-Secretary, Royal Society Sectional Chemical Committee, production of Drugs at Universities, 1915-19. Chemical Warfare Committee (poison gas), 1916-19.
