Biography: Son of Alexander Patterson; born Aberdeen, 27 March 1895. M.A., 1915. Private, 4th (Reserve) Gordon Highlanders, March 1915; commissioned, 7th Gordon Highlanders, October 1915; transferred to King's African Rifles and East African Mechanical Transport Corps. Served-France, January-July 1916; British and German East Africa, January 1918-January 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
