Biography: Son of George B. Downie; born Buckie, 29 April 1887. M.A. (I Math.), 1909. Private, 6th Gordon Highlanders, April 1915 ; commissioned, September 1915. Served-Home, 18 months; France, November-December 1915, July 1916-May 1917, May-July 1918. Final rank, Captain.
