Biography: Son of John Runcieman; born King-Edward, 18 February 1878. M.A. (Ill Ment.), 1899; B.L. (dist.), 1902. U Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders Private, 2/7th Royal Highlanders, 12 September 1914. Served with Royal Defence Corps, Highland Light Infantry, Labour Corps. Commissioned, 2 April 1915. Home, 1914-17; Western Front, April 1917-November 1918. Final rank, Captain.
