U Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders Commissioned, Field Company, Royal Engineers, 1 October 1914. Served-Home, 1914-15; France, 1915-November 1917; Italy, November 1917-December 1918. Final rank, Major. Military Cross, July 1918. Mentioned in despatches, July 1917.
