Biography: Son of Alexander Nicol; born Aberdeen, 18 September 1882. M.A., 1902; B.L. (distinction), 1904; Edmond Prize. Private, 1st Scots Guards, November 1915. Served-Home, 1916; Belgium, France, 1917-18; Germany, Cologne, December 1918-March 1919. Final rank, Sergeant. D.C.M., August 1918. Mentioned in despatches, November 1918.
