Biography: Son of Alexander Thain; born Fintray, 26 December 1863. Advocate in Aberdeen, 1890. Commissioned, Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1884. Retired, 1901. Re-commissioned, 4th Gordon Highlanders, 29 July 1915. Home service, 1915-17. Final rank, Captain (Reserve of Officers).
