Biography: Son of James Halliday; born Peterhead, 19 December 1888. Arts, 1907-08. Joined U Company, 2nd Volunteer Battalion Gordon Highlanders, 1907. Private, 5th Gordon Highlanders, 17 July 1916; commissioned, March 1917; attached No. 3 Reserve Battalion (9th Division), India, 1/7th Hampshire Regiment. Served-Home, India, Aden Peninsula, July 1916-November 1919. Final rank, Lieutenant.
