Gardner, Henry Rule
Biography: Son of Ishmael S. Gardner; born Portsmouth, 15 August 1873. M.B., 1895. Surgeon, R.N., 1898. Mobilized Staff-Surgeon, R.N., August 1914. Served in - H.M.S. ""Jupiter"", August 1914-May 1915, North Sea and Arctic; H.M.S. ""Nottingham"", 1915-August 1916, Battle Cruiser Force, Grand Fleet (Jutland Battle, 31 May 1916; sinking of H.M.S. ""Nottingham"" by enemy submarine, 19 August 1916); H.M.S. ""Glorious"", October 1916-March 1918, Battle Cruiser Force, Grand Fleet (Heligoland, Nov 1917). Final rank, Surgeon-Commander, R.N. Order of Stanislas, 2nd class (Russian), White Sea, 1915.
