Watt, James Roderick

Biography: Son of James Watt, schoolmaster, Fearn ; born there, 8 February 1895 ; educated Invergordon Academy, where he was Dux in Mathematics in 1913 ; matriculated in Medicine, 1913. He enlisted in "U" Company, 4th Gordon Highlanders, in January 1914, and went with his Battalion into training at Bedford, but partly on account of his youth, was left behind when the Battalion crossed to France. During 1915 he acted as Special Guard on the Clyde, and was for a time Medical Orderly at Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow. Watt transferred to the Special (Gas) Brigade, R.E., late in 1915, and went to France early in 1916. He was killed in action on the Somme, 30 June 1916.

Burial Details: Buried at Carnoy Military Cemetery, Row Q, Grave 17.
