Biography
Physician and diplomat. Possibly born in Aberdeen or educated at King's College. Studied at Montpellier 1582. Whilst there met Anthony Bacon, who brought him to Elizabeth I's notice. Hired to negotiate with the Earl of Huntly, sent intelligence to Elizabeth I about the Scottish earls' plans. Published two books: one a learned attack on alchemy, one on practices of the Catholic Church.
