Murray, John

Biography

Church of Scotland minister. M.A., Univ of Edinburgh, 1595. Minister of Borthwich 1597, Leith 1603. At odds with royal policy regarding the church. Imprisoned 1608-9 for a sermon criticising the institution of bishops. Restored to the ministry at Dunfermline 1614. Deprived of his ministry 1622 for failing to observe the Perth articles, but continued to preach. Died Prestonpans 1632.
